Hedy Lamarr

Timing is everything. Hedy Lamarr appeared nude - it was in the avant-garde movie Ecstasy, 1933 - and it's still being written of today. Lamarr was famous for her masklike beauty which so mesmerized audiences that her acting seemed irrelevant.

I'm basing my ratings on only one film, and that is Algiers, 1938. It's the only one of hers I've seen so far. It was the essence, and not the story, so the legend that followed was perhaps unjustified, unlike the somewhat similar but much more famous Casablanca. I still enjoy it, though. Casbah and all. It creates a longing that stays with you after the movie's ended and you're into next week. No wonder..

Thanks to CG's recommend, I have just ordered her autobiography, and should have it by next week.

Girl Genius and timeless beauty. What better legacy could one hope to leave behind?
