icine poetry contest - entry 3

by Katrinaro

An unbreakable sky hovers
Over the breaking waves,
Watching the thread of time on the horizon line
Separate real from unreal,
As constant as color.
The sea could swallow this shore.
If it can drown something as intangible
As the prints of memory on a mind,
Why not drown me?
Surge me, swirl me, and spit me out
To drift among the deep blues and shallow greens--
My new companions as flesh becomes fluid.
I absorb that which I envy,
And the water continues to run,
Never knowing the reason for its flowing.
