icine poetry contest - entry 7
by astor

The sighs of the sirens
Over the ocean air
Gave credence to the dawn approaching
We watched from under cover...
Waves lapped over the boat
The calm came down, and stayed
A quiet over the mountain
Drew us in, made us prisoner, made us watch.
A sunburst of light, so prescient, so spectacular
Nothing we'd seen come down from the mountain
Could touch what lay over us this day.
Ours was the sea and all in the skies.
It matters not what happened
In days, weeks or months prior
All memories swept away
And caught in the moment, suspended for all time.
We stayed there, by the mountain
In the shadow that drew over our sea
Our place, nothing existed
But for the space and the time and essence.
Vivid was the dawn as approached
Calm was the air, and sea
Water, land mass, and only cirrus witnessed.
The endless terrain vanished.
Our place won't be the same now
Ever again, after that day
We'll always remember the gift Mother Nature bestowed
Upon our place by the sea.
For still exists a moment,
Lost in the space and time,
Never to be grasped by us again
And forgotten by the memorylessness that surrounds us.
But we recall and always will
The morning that turned red and black
And pink and all glorious tones of the spectrum,
Locked in a moment leading into day.
2nd place
